Some cocktails never go out of fashion… and others quietly disappear, even though they absolutely deserve a place behind the bar. The Rum Runner is one of those drinks.


Created back in the 1950s, the Rum Runner is a fruity, rum-forward cocktail packed with flavour — but for some reason, it’s never quite had the same spotlight as other tropical classics. And that’s a shame, because when it’s made properly, it’s right up there with the best rum cocktails to make at home.


In this video, I’ll show you the original Rum Runner cocktail recipe, breaking down exactly how to make a Rum Runner the right way. Then I take it a step further and modernise it — tweaking the rum, refining the balance, and turning it into something you’d happily see on a cocktail bar menu today.
