Is This Rum Worth Buying? Aluna Tropica Pineapple Rum Review

If you’ve spotted Aluna Pineapple & Pandan Spiced Rum on the shelf and wondered whether it’s just another flavoured gimmick… or something genuinely worth pouring, this one’s for you. I put it through its paces the only way that really matters behind a bar, not just sipping it neat, but actually making drinks with it.

From first taste, it’s a bit of a curveball. You get that soft tropical pineapple straight away, but it’s the pandan that gives it a slightly creamy, almost vanilla-like edge, backed up with subtle lemongrass and spice. Importantly… it’s not a sugar bomb. That alone already puts it ahead of a lot of spiced rums.

From there, it’s all about how it behaves in the glass. Simple highballs with ginger beer and lemonade bring out completely different sides of the rum — one spicy and warming, the other light and dangerously easy to drink.

Then we step things up with a Daiquiri (and a cheeky twist), plus a few easy “pub cheat code” serves using pre-mixes from Finest Call. The real fun, though, is pushing it into more creative territory — tropical riffs, swizzles, and flavour combinations where that pineapple and pandan combo can properly shine. By the end of it, the question isn’t just “is it good?”… it’s “would I actually use this behind the bar?” And honestly? This one earns its spot.

I'm proud to have built up friendships and working relationships with all these brands. I don't accept money for one off paid promotions. Instead, my philosophy is that I only use Products & Brands in my content, that I would happily use if I was running a Bar. From there, I then build working relationships with the brands to help them educate and showcase their products to potential customers.
